Along with advances in hand-held particle beam guns, lasers, with their superior penetration and range, continued to advance during the early years of the Southern Cross' sole guardianship of Earth. The LR-20 was the first laser weapon adopted by a Terran army, entering limited service in the Southern Cross' land and space forces in the mid 2020's. The LR-20 was a compact and effective design, though it was soon eclipsed in capacity and yield by the LR-30. By 2029, the LR-20 was only in use with the Tactical Space Corps and some of the Tactical Corps' divisions.
