Designed in the latter decades of the twentieth century as the Advanced Medium Range Air to Air Missile (AMRAAM), the Scorpion was a primary weapon for most of the air forces in the Global Civil War. After the crash of the SDF-1, the RDF accepted the C version of this missile as its main medium air-to-air missile until the purpose designed Stiletto was available in numbers. Mainly carried on the RDFs' conventional fighters such as the Dragon or Executioner, the Scorpion remained in production until 2006, although at the start of the Robotech Wars, all had been retired from service.
