The Stingray Mk.10 torpedo is the result of over 30 years of continuous development. It was the standard air launched torpedo of the REF and Southern Cross, and was used by the REF Air Force as well on its limited number of anti-submarine VTOL aircraft. It is the most lethal anti-submarine torpedo available on Earth and as no other races operate anti-submarine forces, in known space.
The Stingray could take out any Terran submarine save for the Prometheus and Daedalus carriers, which were allied vessels. During the Macross Island assault and later in the Malcontent Uprisings several pods were destroyed in this manner.
The Stingray was also carried by REF Space Kitchens in case the REF encountered hostiles with submersible vessels. The REF never did so, and no REF underwater warfare operations ever took place. The Stingray is still in service, but anti-submarine warfare is rapidly becoming an extinct art, as no known possible enemy deploys submarines.
