VIII. Armor.

The DL-88 Centipede is composed of light weight titanium-steel alloys that provide fair protection against small arms fire, and good protection against small grenade and shell fragments.

The DL-88 cab provides full protection from nuclear, biological, and chemical hazards, using an overpressure crew compartment environment activated by radiation and hazardous chemical sensors, or manually when biological warfare conditions are anticipated. The internal consumables supplies can provide atmosphere for two man-weeks maximum.

IX. Development.

With the construction of Moon Base Luna and Mars Base Sara, the United Earth Government needed cargo vehicles capable of operating without an atmosphere. The DL-88 Centipede was the vehicle that won the contract award for the all-terrain hostile-environment truck. The cargo area was designed around the standardized 25 cubic meter cargo pallet used by the UEG military spacelift command and was capable of carrying three.

The DL-88 performed its role sufficiently for it to be adopted by the ASC and REF space forces.
